helgoland

Helgoland is a German island located in the North Sea.

An iconic and spectacular place, constantly battered by the sea and strong winds.
If the sea conditions are good, it's easy to get there and leave, but if they aren’t,

you simply have to wait.
Living on an island is never easy;

you must accept the fact that you need to “wait” for the right conditions to go out.

That’s exactly what I loved about this place from the start:

"being a prisoner of nature."

Perhaps this is why it was chosen as a bunker island during World War II.

The island is divided into two parts:

the upper part, called Oberland, features a towering cliff that serves as a playground

for pelagic birds that nest there.

There’s a beautiful walk where you can enjoy stunning sunsets and watch the birds just a few meters away.

Below, there is the quaint and charming town of Helgoland, perfectly organized.

In the lower part, there is another small island called Unterland, which lies at sea level,

formed by beautiful sand dunes and wonderful beaches where you can easily observe a

colony of grey seals and various species of migratory birds.

I’ve been there twice: once in late April and once in mid-June.
Each time was simply wonderful, and I hope to return someday.

Enjoy the view.
